El Mikexican recommends...

See this bottle? This is a bottle of happiness. It is an elegant, curvaceous bottle, wonderfully decorated, and completely unique. And inside, more wonderfulness. Inside you find Clase Azul Reposado, and for my money, this is as good as tequila gets. It is a little bit spicy, and warm and buttery—and therefore, exceptionally smooth. If you already like tequila, you will love this tequila. And if you are tequila shy, this tequila will talk you out if it.

This tequila is not inexpensive. But they make a little two-shot bottle, so you can take a test drive before you commit to a larger one.

Here is my method and my suggestion to you, if you care to try it. Set aside your to-do list. Park yourself somewhere pleasant, maybe with a book, magazine, or an iPod. (If you can find a hammock on a warm day, that's the best.) Now, SIP a shot of this tequila, slowly. (I nurse one for about 20 minutes.) Drink some cool water while you're at it. I follow that with an ice cold Pacifico—not because you need to chase the shot, but simply because it's a really nice combo. You don't need lime and salt, either. A slice of orange is far more appropriate.

Then, take a nap. Bueños sueños.

I am young again

Just as I was feeling my age last week (a bout brought on by a photo of my 8 year old godson shredding up some powder in Tahoe—see post below) I found my inner kid again, on a beautiful, sunny day with high quality waves at Carmel Beach. Two very quick seconds in the tube, then shot out onto the shoulder, the Ocean delivered me from my self pity. I am reborn. (Too many 'birth' metaphors? Sorry.) No lower back pain this week, either... woohoo!

I am old

Despite my dedication to the action sports lifestyle and  a strong desire to somehow outsmart the aging process, apparently, I am indeed getting older. Recent evidence includes a few more greys in my sideburns, rapidly deteriorating eyesight, and the occasionally stiff lower back. I should be doing yoga or something to stay loose, but I'm slow to make changes. Well, those days are over. Nothing—and I mean nothing—that has happened to me in the past few years has made me feel older faster than getting this photo of my 8 year old godson, ripping pow at Northstar. I am stoked for him... he's a future action sports hero, no doubt. But very soon, he will be blasting past me going full speed through the trees, and when I'm already off the hill by 2pm, he'll be hiking the pipe. Like I used to. (sigh)
